Anthony von Mandl was born in Vancouver, Canada in 1950.
He started a wine-importing business, which later became the Mark Anthony Group, in 1972 after finishing college. In 1981, he bought his first winery in the Okanagan Valley, Canada where he began producing wines as well as ciders. He acquired at least six wineries in the region.
In the 1980s, he bought the rights to import Corona beer into Canada after noticing its popularity in the U.S.
In 1996, he introduced Mike's Hard Lemonade after realizing that many men felt compelled to drink beer even though they didn't like the taste. The product was popular and soon introduced to the U.S. Another of the group's products, White Claw hard seltzer, was introduced in 2016.
