The majority of Hohn's net worth is derived from TCI Fund Management, the investment firm he founded. TCI was the world's best performing hedge fund in 2019 and managed about $44 billion at the end of 2021.

His personal investments in TCI are based on the $5.5 billion he had invested with the firm at the beginning of 2021 and the estimated $2.1 billion he earned in 2021 before taxes, according to a Bloomberg News report.

The business is valued using the company's most recent financial results and the average enterprise value-to-sales ratio of three publicly traded hedge funds: Sculptor Capital Management, Janus Henderson Group and Man Group. A 25% key-man risk discount is applied.

Hohn was born in Alderstone, England in 1966. His father was a Jamaican-born car mechanic and his mother an administrative worker.

He studied at the University of Southampton before being encouraged to apply to Harvard Business School where he obtained an MBA.

After 7 years working for New York-based Perry Capital, Hohn returned to London in 2003 where he opened his own hedge fund, The Children's Investment Fund.

TCI's investments have included stakes in Deutsche Boerse, ABN Amro and News Corp.

He received a knighthood for services to philanthropy in 2014. Hohn's donated personally and through his foundation to activist group Extinction Rebellion.

Hohn is divorced and lives in London.
