The majority of Kurzius’s fortune is from his major stake in Mailchimp, an Atlanta-based email marketing company that was acquired in November 2021 by Intuit for $12 billion in cash and stock. He owned 50% of the closely held business, according to a person familiar with the matter, and received an equal split of cash and Intuit stock from the proceeds of Mailchimp’s sale.

The pair started Mailchimp during the same year as a side-project. Six years later, the pair closed their web design agency to focus on Atlanta-based Mailchimp, which they funded themselves.

Chestnut and Kurzius agreed in September 2021 to sell Mailchimp for $12 billion in cash and stock.

Kurzius lives in Atlanta with his family.
