Confidence rating:

The majority of Halvorsen's fortune is derived from Viking Global Investors, the hedge fund he co-founded in 1999. Viking has about $47 billion in assets under management at the beginning of 2022, according to a Bloomberg News report.

Halvorsen has about $6.1 billion invested in Viking funds, based on an analysis of the firm's March 2021 form ADV filing and its 2021 performance.

Halvorsen is also the majority owner of Viking, according to SEC filings that don't specify the exact size of his stake. He's calculated to hold a 71% stake based on a Bloomberg analysis of court documents and SEC filings. His stake is valued using the average price-to-assets under management multiple of publicly traded peers. A 25% discount is applied to reflect 'key-man risk'. Halvorsen's calculated cash holdings are deducted from the asset under managements used to calculate value of his company to avoid double counting.

Rose Shabet, chief operating officer at Viking, declined to comment in February 2022.
