Sergey Gordeev was born in 1972 in Moscow. He graduated from the Tolyatti Academy of Public Administration with specializations in finance and credit in 2003.
His first business, which he founded with friends, involved selling Snickers candy bars, according to an interview with Vedomosti business daily in November 2017. The billionaire founded Rosbuilding, which converted Moscow industrial zones into real estate developments, in 1995.
He left Rosbuilding in 2006 and the following year founded Horus Capital with a focus on the development of commercial office buildings. He sold Horus in 2010 and three years later bought almost 20% of publicly traded PIK Group from the foundation of billionaire Suleiman Kerimov. In 2017, he increased his stake to a controlling interest.
