Consulting accounted for 25.4% of all hires, the biggest share of any industry, among MBA graduates from the 117 schools around the world that participated in this year’s B-Schools ranking. The industry often is cited by student respondents as an area of interest and opportunity, due in large part to the high salaries offered across large, midsized, and boutique consultancies. At several leading consulting firms, those salaries are on the rise. Post-MBA starting associate/consultant salaries at McKinsey & Co. and Bain & Co. in the US now are reportedly $192,000—and $190,000 at Boston Consulting Group—up from the former $175,000. Among the ranking’s participants this year, INSEAD sent 238 graduates into consulting, the most of any school. Second was Indian School of Business in Hyderabad, India, at 230. And third was the University of Chicago’s Booth, at 158.
