Veteran dealmaker Neal Froneman will retire as chief executive officer of Sibanye Stillwater Ltd., handing over the reins of the South African mining company to Richard Stewart at the end of September.

Since its creation in 2013, when Gold Fields Ltd. spun off its oldest South African gold mines, Froneman has transformed Sibanye through the acquisition of platinum-group metals assets from Montana to Zimbabwe. He then switched his focus to battery metals such as lithium, nickel and cobalt, which are helping to drive the electric-vehicle revolution.
