Mozambique Opposition Head Calls for a Day of National Shutdown

Mozambique’s most prominent opposition leader Venâncio Mondlane called for a nationwide shutdown on Tuesday to commemorate the country’s “true heroes,” including hundreds of protesters who have died in unrest following October elections.

It’s unclear how many people will respond to the summons, though supporters have largely followed his instructions in the months of demonstrations after the southeast African nation’s disputed Oct. 9 vote.
