Top UBS Fund Manager Buys ‘Oversold’ Asia Junk Bonds During Rout

A top Asian junk bond investor purchased more of such debt during the recent tariffs-induced market turmoil, reiterating a bullish view on the sector given fewer defaults and expectations of a lighter blow from trade tensions.

“We continue to hold a positive view on the overall performance of Asian high yield in 2025,” said Raymond Gui, head of Asia fixed income portfolio management at UBS Asset Management Ltd., who beat 98% of his rivals last year. “The lower-than-expected default rate compared to previous years, coupled with the limited direct credit fundamental impact from tariffs, are anticipated to be significant drivers of medium-term performance.”
