Malaysia Seeks to Bring US-Imposed Tariffs Down to Zero in Talks
Malaysia is negotiating with the US to bring its tariffs on the Southeast Asian nation down to zero, from the 24% that President Donald Trump pledged to impose, according to Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Zafrul Aziz.
In return, Washington wants Malaysia to address trade imbalances, non-tariff barriers, and safeguard US technology from being channeled to other parties and investment, Zafrul said at a press briefing in Kuala Lumpur on Monday. The nation’s state-linked investment companies hold about $45 billion in US bonds, he added.
