Ghana’s ruling party has cemented its rise to power after comfortably securing two-thirds of the seats in parliament.

It comes after the National Democratic Congress party won a rerun of a disputed constituency in the capital Accra, on Friday, the Electoral Commission said. The NDC now controls 184 seats in the 276-member parliament, clearly giving them the so-called super majority. The opposition New Patriotic Party retains 88 seats while the rest four are occupied by independent representatives.
