Trump’s FBI Firings Will Make the US Less Safe
Terminating thousands of agents for investigating the Jan. 6 attack will gut the agency. It’s also illegal.

Donald Trump’s Department of Justice is moving to fire thousands of FBI employees. If successful, the terminations will have disastrous consequences for the country that will reverberate for generations.
Acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove sent a memo to acting FBI Director Brian Driscoll last week bearing the subject line, “Terminations.” The memo directed Driscoll to fire eight senior FBI officials and to collect the names of FBI personnel “assigned at any time to investigations” relating to the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol for a “review process to determine whether additional personnel actions are needed.”
