Pam Bondi Isn’t the President’s Enforcer

The Justice Department is meant to serve the public, not the Trump White House.

He’s demanding loyalty, not justice from those sworn to uphold the law.

Ethical prosecutors are fond of saying that they act without fear or favor. President Donald Trump wants them to act with both.

On Saturday, the president removed any pretense of independence between the White House and the Justice Department in a post on Truth Social with a direct demand to charge his perceived enemies with crimes. “They impeached me twice, and indicted me (5 times!), OVER NOTHING,” he wrote. “JUSTICE MUST BE SERVED, NOW!!!” Lest there be any confusion as to Trump’s intended audience, the message was addressed to “Pam.” That would be Pam Bondi, our nation’s attorney general, who has sworn to support and defend the Constitution.
